MEP ENGINEER

POSITION SUMMARY
Apex Design Build is a design and architectural firm with an integrated construction team, specializing in the healthcare space. Following design-build methodology, we manage projects from early visioning and conceptual design stages, all the way through the architectural and construction phases.

We are seeking a skilled and proactive MEP Engineer to join our growing team. This role will lead mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) with a heavy focus on mechanicals scopes on complex healthcare projects—particularly Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASCs). The MEP Engineer will ensure seamless coordination across preconstruction, architectural, and construction phases, serving as a technical liaison among internal teams, consultants, and clients.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the MEP efforts of multiple projects, specifically ASC projects, from design development through construction.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, consultants, and clients to align MEP designs with overall project goals.
  • Propose value engineering methods as needed to maximize budget and optimize system performance.
  • Manage budgets and monitor cost performance against estimates.
  • Review designs of external consultants, validating compliance with applicable healthcare codes (ie, NFPA 99, ASHRAE 170, and FGI guidelines) and provide technical input related. to contract drawings and documents as needed.
  • Ensure integration of critical systems such as HVAC for OR air changes and pressurization, medical gas, emergency power, and infection control infrastructure.
  • Review and manage MEP-related submittals, shop drawings, and system specifications.
  • Coordinate with MEP subcontractors to ensure quality execution and adherence to project documentation.
  • Anticipate technical issues in plumbing, electrical loads, and HVAC zones unique to surgical environments.
  • Ensure that MEP Subcontractors adhere to project safety regulations.
  • As needed, attend internal, client, and municipal meetings and inspections to represent MEP design and execution.

QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, or related Engineering field, required.
  • PE license or PMP certification preferred.
  • 6–10 years of experience in building systems engineering, construction administration, or program management (healthcare environments (preferably surgical centers, hospitals, or medical office buildings).
  • Proficient in MS Office Applications (Word, Excel, Project, and Outlook), Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam and project management platforms.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare codes, design standards, and permitting workflows.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational, planning, and prioritization skills.
  • Self-motivated, with high energy and a drive to excel.
